Head Finisher
As the head finisher for Firefly, you will be responsible for crafting the creative, intricate, and highly personalized frame and component finishes that we have become known for. You will create those finishes through various combinations of masking, polishing, brushing, bead blasting, and anodizing, in addition to other experimental finish techniques. Many customers choose Firefly in large part for our high-quality finish work, so finishing is a key part of our success and we take extra care to ensure that our products shipped to our customers are as close to flawless as we can make them. We are a small, tight-knit shop, and at the end of every day you will be able to leave proud of your work knowing that you’re helping to build some of the best custom bikes made, for customers all over the world.
The Job
As head finisher, you will:
- Be in charge of turning the unfinished products into finished products through brushing, blasting, polishing, masking, anodizing, and cleaning
- Strategize with production & sales to evolve the finishing department through new finishes and new techniques, and create color/texture samples when necessary
- Execute efficient workflow and timely delivery of projects into and out of the shop as per scheduled delivery timelines
- Be aware of relevant inventory levels to keep finishing flowing smoothly (abrasives/tape/media/ect…)
- Maintain shop cleanliness and all equipment in good working order (media blasters, filter changing, tool maintenance, and general shop cleanliness, etc…)
- Arrange work for upcoming finishes
- Perform the final check on finished frames certifying that all work has been done correctly and is up to Firefly standards
- Prepare the frame and finished parts (unmasking and cleaning) and assembly of small parts in preparation for the final build
- Help with packing and shipping of frames
Skills required
- Team-oriented attitude and ability to work collaboratively and problem-solve
- Great communication, both in-house and with customers
- Ability to do repetitive and physical work
- Ability to maintain an organized and clean work environment
- Great attention to detail
- Google Docs/Google Sheets/Excel
- Experience with Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop a plus
The Ideal Candidate
- Has previous frame finishing experience
- Has an understanding of basic hand tools
- Has an understanding of vector graphics
- Is fluent in Adobe Illustrator
- Can operate a vinyl plotter
- Has an understanding of vinyl masking techniques
- Has excellent dexterity and hand-eye coordination
General shop help
Ultimately everyone at Firefly is responsible for making our final product live up to the quality standards, expected turnaround times, and great customer experience that we are known for. This requires each team member to help out where needed, including tasks outside of the finishing department, like occasionally talking to customers directly about their finishes, or more general shop maintenance and organization.
Compensation
- $21-27/hr depending on experience
